The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has joined the investigation into the seizure of suspected explosive materials along the planned route during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bengaluru on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

The incident was reported within the limits of Kaggalipura Police Station, where security personnel carrying out routine road cleaning allegedly discovered a suspicious plastic cover containing explosive materials near Kanakapura Road leading to the Art of Living campus.

According to the complaint filed by constable Jagadish Doddamani of Kodihalli Police Station, the suspicious material was noticed during bandobast duty ahead of the Prime Minister’s program at the Art of Living campus.

The complainant stated that he took office on May 9, 2026 and continued security deployment throughout the night. He resumed his duty at around 7 am on May 10 at Sector-1A near the muddy road adjacent to the forest area near Kanakapura Road.

At around 9:45 a.m., while carrying out routine checks of suspicious persons, vehicles and objects, he allegedly noticed a plastic lid with a suspicious lock in an empty area about 20 meters from the roadside near the forest compound.

‘Six stick-like objects’

Upon closer inspection, authorities reportedly found a khaki cardboard box wrapped with tape inside the plastic lid. The box allegedly contained approximately six stick-like objects that resembled gelatin sticks, as well as wires, matchsticks, empty containers and tape materials.

The police officer immediately alerted senior officers, following which DSP Om Prakash and other officials arrived at the spot and examined the suspicious object.

Then, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Team (BDDS) and explosive disposal experts were informed. A team led by RSI Mohammed Aris reportedly reached the area around 10:15 in the morning and inspected it until approximately 10:50.

During preliminary investigation, authorities suspected that the package contained explosive material. Later, bomb disposal teams inspected the area and took security measures.

A case has been registered at Kaggalipura Police Station under the Explosive Substances Act and further investigation is on.

Possible vulnerabilities

Meanwhile, NIA officials also visited the area and collected preliminary information from Bengaluru South district police officers. Investigators are investigating whether the explosives were deliberately planted to target the Prime Minister’s convoy route or whether there was a larger conspiracy behind the incident.

Senior officials, including officers from the state’s internal security and intelligence wing, are examining possible security vulnerabilities and analyzing CCTV footage and local intelligence input.
