The Opposition Congress in Rajasthan on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, asked why the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the State police did not register a first information report on the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak even though around 15 people were detained for questioning. SOG has been investigating the matter for five days to track down a suspicious network.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the investigation on the instructions of the Centre, registered a case on Tuesday. While the exam has been canceled by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the CBI is expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations of document leak.

Congress leaders here said that the Bharatiya Janata Party government tried to cover up the issue for several days instead of bringing out the truth. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that after the cancellation of the entrance exam, the “true face” of the BJP government was revealed and it pointed to large-scale malpractices.

“It is impossible to understand why the SOG has not filed a criminal case in this regard. The paper leak has caused great distress to our youth… This is a big challenge. Have the SOG officials been instructed not to disclose the details?” Mr. Gehlot said while talking to reporters at his home.

Opposition Leader Tika Ram Jully claimed that the cancellation of NEET-UG was evidence of “organized irregularities” in the conduct of the test. He said that the State government was jeopardizing the future of the students by hiding the issue for fear of disrepute and projecting its clean image.

Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra said the cancellation of the exam exposed the “collusion” between the BJP government and the paper leak mafia. “Instances of influential leaders of the BJP having links to the mafia are coming to light. The nation expects the CBI to conduct an impartial investigation and impose harshest possible punishment on the culprits,” Mr. Dotasra said.
