Diplomacy and sustainability- dialogues for the future

Amid rising geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty, energy insecurity and climate challenges, India is increasingly emerging as an influential voice in shaping the future global order. In this context, Hindu Group, together with Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), Hindu Diplomacy and Sustainability Dialogues 2026 On May 13, SIMATS is in Chennai.
Centered around the theme “From Crisis to Leadership: India’s Global Role,” The event will bring together diplomats, strategic experts, academics and policymakers to discuss India’s growing diplomatic and sustainability leadership amid the ongoing West Asian crisis and rapidly evolving global dynamics.
The opening session included TS Tirumurti, Permanent Representative and former Ambassador of India to the United Nations in New York; Talmiz Ahmad, former Ambassador to Oman, UAE and Saudi Arabia and professor of International Studies at Symbiosis International University, Pune; and Sunjay Sudhir, former Ambassador to UAE and Maldives and Fellow of IIM Ahmedabad. NM Veeraiyan, Chancellor, SIMATS, Chennai, will deliver the private address.
The first panel discussion titled “India’s Diplomatic Balancing in West Asia: Strategic Autonomy, Energy Security and Global Responsibility,” It will examine India’s diplomatic approach in the context of the evolving West Asian crisis. Talmiz Ahmad in the session; Prof. Gulshan Sachdeva, Jean Monnet Chair, School of International Studies, JNU; Sunjay Sudhir; and TC Karthikeyan, Professor of Politics and International Relations and Director of the Center for Public Policy and Management at Saveetha Law School. The discussion will be moderated by Diplomatic Editor Suhasini Haidar. Hindu.
Second panel discussion, “The Impact of the West Asian Crisis on Economic Disruptions and Sustainability: Implications for India,” It will focus on disruptions to trade, energy markets and supply chains, and will also explore the importance of keeping sustainability at the heart of policymaking in times of global conflict. Speakers of the session included Sudha Meiyappan, member of the SICCI Economic Affairs Committee; Colonel Rajeev Agarwal, Senior Research Advisor, Chintan Research Foundation; and S. Pandiaraj, professor of International Law and Trade, Saveetha Law School. The session will be moderated by Deputy Business Editor Kunal Shankar. Hindu.
The event will also include a special chat by the fireplace. “India’s Global Future: Leadership, Diplomacy and Sustainability in Times of Conflict,” Meanwhile, Mr. Tirumurti will share his views on India’s growing strategic and diplomatic influence in an increasingly fragmented global environment.
