Trump in China LIVE: Xi Jinping set for ‘long talk’ on Iran | World | News

US President Donald Trump will go to Beijing to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in his first visit to China since 2017.

The visit will include talks between the leaders of the two superpowers, a banquet and a visit to the Temple of Heaven. Before leaving for China, Trump told reporters he would have a “long conversation” with Xi about China’s ally Iran.

Beijing has joined Pakistan as a mediator in the conflict between the US and Iran, which flared up after the US and Israel launched a joint attack on some key areas of Iran on February 28. Iran retaliated by striking sites in the Middle East and closing the critical Strait of Hormuz trade route.

The meeting will also provide the basis for dialogue between the world’s number one and number two economies on a range of other issues, with Trump ally and billionaire businessman Elon Musk accompanying the US president.
