While he’s fascinated audiences for decades, his fitness and nutrition have been just as enduring.

‘My exercise regime has changed a lot over the years. I was very active as a young girl. “From the age of 16, I went to discotheques, dance halls and nightclubs and danced for hours throughout the night,” he told Platinum magazine.

She admitted that she will be doing a lot of gym training and pilates from now on, but as you get older, ‘you can’t put that much stress on your body’.

In fact, in recent years, he had to reduce his movements due to nerve compression, which caused him to be unable to function for about two months.

However, he managed to make a full recovery with the help of physical therapy.

Joan described physiotherapy as an important part of her daily routine and of staying active later in life in general.

He told My Weekly magazine: ‘I would highly recommend working with a physiotherapist for older men and women who want to stay fit.

‘I mostly do it for half an hour a day and I’ve found it gives me energy.’

The ‘little and often’ philosophy also applies to regular swimming practice.

Staying so active has allowed him to stay flexible and mobile, and he has shown on many occasions that he can still do leg splits.

“I do the splits very easily,” she said on BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour.

When it comes to food, Joan tends to opt for nutritious whole foods and even eats an avocado every day.

‘I eat an avocado every day and get a facial with a girl named Tracie Martyn in New York. “It gives my skin a lot of oxygen,” she told The Express.

Avocados are highly nutritious and offer healthy monounsaturated fats, fiber and essential nutrients.

It improves heart health by lowering LDL cholesterol, supports digestive health, and promotes satiety for weight control.

Joan often says she stays away from junk food and credits her youthful appearance to a balanced diet, but she doesn’t skimp on life’s pleasures, including a glass of fizz or pudding if she so desires.

Speaking previously to the Daily Mail, he once said: ‘The quality of what you eat is just as important as the quality of the products you use.’

‘I try to have a balanced diet. I believe that eating avocado is very beneficial and I believe that it is necessary to take vitamin supplements; ‘I take Vitamin C, E and Omega oils.’

Taking a healthy approach to treats and working with a stellar nutritionist, Gabriela Peacock has done wonders in later life – but Joan admits she may have been gifted with some great genes.

He said ok! magazine: ‘I don’t stuff myself with food. I only eat half of what’s on my plate and I don’t deprive myself.

“I’ll drink wine, I’ll eat dessert, I’ll eat toast, and I’ll drink coffee with sugar,” Joan said. ‘I guess I’m lucky.’

The Golden Globe winner wrote in The Telegraph: ‘A lot of people think I do tons of work. To rectify the situation: I didn’t.’

‘I haven’t had Botox, I haven’t had any corrections, I haven’t had fat grafting and to be honest, when I look at women having Botox – certainly a lot of women in their 40s – it horrifies me.’

Speaking to The Sun in 2017, Joan hit out at those who refuse to believe a surgeon doesn’t enjoy the strokes and curves of his blade.

He said: ‘If people want to think I’ve had surgery then… [I haven’t] Because I have lines and a double chin. When I see women my age, I think, ‘Really? God, I look pretty good…, I think I look pretty good!’

He continued: ‘I always, always sleep on my back too. I’ve trained myself to do it, because I used to sleep on my side, curled up in the pillow, and then I was told not to do that because it gives you a ‘crunchy face’. That’s absolutely true.’

One of Joan’s top anti-aging tips is to never leave the house without SPF and to always keep your face out of the sun.

She told You Magazine in 2014: ‘Since I was 20 I have always used sunscreen and kept my face away from harmful rays.

‘You should see me when I wake up in the morning: my face is so white it’s like a sheet.’

He added: ‘I saved my face by always wearing a hat in the sun. The rest of me isn’t as good as it should be because I’m going out in the sun. I love tanning. This means I can wear off-the-shoulder things.’

Joan explained: 'I haven't had Botox, I haven't had any corrections, I haven't had fat grafting and to be honest when I look at women who have had it it horrifies me.'

And there’s discipline when it comes to your skincare routine.

She previously told The Mirror: ‘I don’t go to bed without taking off my make-up and applying night cream. ‘My mum made me and my sister Jackie do this when we were 14.’

The Dynasty star revealed that her pre-bed skincare routine involves removing her make-up with Nivea cleanser before applying Charlotte Tilbury night cream.

Joan also shared her secret routine before attending red carpet events: ‘After all the big events and flights, I grab a bowl of ice and cotton pads, cool the pads and place them over my eyes and then lie down for five minutes.

‘Reduces puffiness and refreshes eyes.’

This is one of the simple tricks the star learned from famed makeup artist Allan ‘Whitey’ Snyder, who prepared Marilyn Monroe for the shoot.
