Ahead of cabinet formation, all eyes are on Congress equations on Satheesan’s turf
With VD Satheesan emerging as the chief ministerial face of the Congress-led United Democratic Front, the party unit in his stronghold of Ernakulam looks set for a political reset.
Mr Satheesan’s elevation as the party’s Prime Ministerial candidate after intense internal turmoil has triggered speculation that anyone from the region could find a place in his Cabinet.
Notably, in the previous UDF government led by Oommen Chandy, Congress did not have a Minister from Ernakulam. VK Ebrahim Kunju of the Indian Union Muslim League and Anoop Jacob of the Kerala Congress (J) were the two ministers of the district at that time. This time, the Congress may field another minister from the region besides the Prime Minister. As the UDF prepares to discuss the Cabinet formation on Saturday, Congress members suggest Aluva MLA Anvar Sadath, TJ Vinod (Ernakulam), Roji M. John (Angamaly) and Mathew Kuzhalnadan (Muvattupuzha) are among the ministerial candidates in the district.
