Kamal Haasan Meets CM Vijay, Eyes Govt To Launch Digital Platform

Veteran actor-politician Kamal Haasan met the newly appointed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and presented six important demands aimed at strengthening the Tamil film industry. Among the key proposals was the demand for a mandatory eight-week OTT release window for films released in the state.
Kamal argued that postponing digital premieres would help theaters and distributors keep themselves afloat in an increasingly competitive market dominated by streaming platforms.
Kamal took to X and shared the list of proposals he has made to the Tamil Nadu government:
Launch an OTT platform owned by the Government of Tamil Nadu to stream Tamil movies, independent cinema and documentaries.
Elimination of the 4% local body entertainment tax.
Create a special anti-piracy unit within the Tamil Nadu Police Cyber Crime Department with the authority to remove pirated content in real-time.
Allow five screenings per day for all films in Tamil Nadu to increase theatrical revenues.
Introduce a mandatory eight-week OTT release window for all films to protect theatrical business and support distributors.
Provide a production incentive of up to 10% of the film budget to projects that have completed more than 50% of their shoot in Tamil Nadu, with the aim of reviving the state as a major filmmaking hub.
Sharing the details of the meeting, Kamal wrote that he personally congratulated Vijay and appreciated the warmth and humility shown during the interaction.
“Today, I met Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Brother Vijay, and conveyed my wishes. He shared many of his dreams for the development of Tamil Nadu and the love and humility he showed made me proud,” Kamal said.
