Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream home debut was a disaster with 1 made shot, 8 turnovers and a lost shoe

Angel Reese started his career with the Chicago Sky and was sent to the Atlanta Dream in one of the most surprising trades of the offseason.

Their performance in their first two matches was mixed. Her dream debut against the Minnesota Lynx was a small sample of her time in the WNBA. He recorded 11 points, 14 rebounds, three blocks on 4-of-11 shooting, but five turnovers and five personal fouls.

He improved slightly in the second game, going 4-of-8 and grabbing 16 rebounds in a 77-72 win over the Dallas Wings. But Sunday marked the Dream’s first game in Atlanta as they announced tickets were sold out at State Farm Arena.

The eagerly awaited Reese received a great welcome in his new city.

She appeared in a leather outfit that one media outlet described as channeling “Catwoman energy.” Later, when asked about her pre-match pairing with A’ja Wilson, she said: “She’s definitely a great player… but I know I’m a great player too.”

This was the highlight of the match for the 24-year-old player. Reese hit one of his eight field goal attempts and missed his lone 3-point shot. He made as many turnovers as he got rebounds; He scored eight points apiece. One field goal, eight turnovers.

In fact, he lost his shoe during one of his signature missed turnstiles.

Six missed layups, eight turnovers in one day… it’s hard to have a worse day than this.

No wonder, then, that his +/- rating that day was -13, meaning that the Las Vegas Aces outscored the Dream by 13 points when Reese was on the court. This season, Reese’s new team was outscored by 15 points while he was on the court.

And incredibly, he was such a huge liability that Atlanta head coach Karl Smesko effectively benched him, outscoring the Dream by double digits. They immediately mounted a comeback with an 85-84 loss to the Aces.
