Gita Gopinath To Depart IMF, Rejoins Harvard As Inaugural Gregory And Ania Coffey Professor | World News

The IMF announced that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will resign from his role to return to the academy at Harvard University in Harvard University in August 2025.
Gopinath, a pioneer in the international economy, will play the opening of the opening Gregory and Ania Coffey Professor in Harvard.
Kristalina Georgieva, General Manager of the IMF, confirmed that Gopinath had left and said that a successor would be called “timely”.
Gopinath first joined the IMF as the Chief Economist in 2019 and became the first woman to hold the position. During the extraordinary global economic turmoil, including Covid-19 pandemi and macroeconomic disruptions that emerged, the leadership was widely recognized.
In January 2022, he was promoted to the Fund’s number 2 as the first assistant manager.
In an article in X, Gopinath reflected his term of office for about seven years in the background and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in one of the world’s leading financial institutions.
“I decided to return to my academic roots after about 7 incredible years in the IMF. On September 1, 2025, I will re -join @Harvardcon as an opening Gregory and Ania Coffey Economy Professor.
