J&K school renamed to honour sacrifice of tourist guide Adil

The name of the school, previously known as Hapatnar High School, was officially changed to Shaheed Adil Memorial High School in Anantnag district at a ceremony attended by state minister Sakeena Itoo.
In the attack in which 25 tourists were killed, Shah was the only local who lost his life while protecting the tourists. The attack subsequently triggered Operation Sindoor, in which India attacked the terror infrastructure in Pakistan.

“Adil’s courage and sacrifice will always be remembered. Risking his own life to save the visitors reflected extraordinary courage and humanity. No one can forget this,” Itoo told members of the media during the event.
He said the National Conference government led by Omar Abdullah has fulfilled its promise with consistent efforts of local MLA Altaf Kaloo.
The minister recalled that he visited the attack site in Pahalgam on the evening of the incident and spent the whole night in the area monitoring the rescue operation. “The incident left a deep impact on everyone. The government’s decision to rename the school was aimed at honoring the martyr and ensuring future generations remember his sacrifice,” Itoo said.
He said this recognition would also provide emotional support to the bereaved family as Shah’s name continues to inspire people in the years to come.
