High school teacher faces new charges in alleged sex crimes with students

A 25-year-old high school teacher who was arrested earlier this month for allegedly having sex with a student now faces additional charges and is accused of inappropriate behavior with several more students, according to arrest records.

Maris Nicols, 25, was arrested Thursday on multiple charges including grooming a minor, sexual assault and child molestation.

Nicols, who previously taught at Alexander High School in Douglas County, is now charged with sex crimes involving six teenagers, FOX 5 reported, citing court documents.

He was first arrested earlier this month and accused of having sex with a student twice: in a school locker and in a Hummer parked in the driveway.

His bond was set at $74,000 and he had until Friday to post bail, according to the station.

Nicols is accused of sending nude photos and videos, including masturbating with a sex toy, during a live video chat to at least two teenagers under the age of 16, FOX 5 reported.

He also allegedly sent text messages to two male students describing sex acts he wanted them to perform for him and sent nude photos to a female student, encouraging her to watch the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Nicols also allegedly had sex with another student in the back of his truck at a country club.

The Douglas County School System previously said in a letter to parents that it was “deeply disturbed” by the allegations.

“Upon learning of the alleged misconduct, the district immediately initiated an investigation,” the letter, sent after Nichols’ initial arrest earlier this month, read. It was said. “The Douglas County School System will continue to fully cooperate with state and local law enforcement. The district is unable to provide additional information regarding the allegations. Further inquiries should be directed to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.”
