“New culture of self-employment, entrepreneurship has developed in country”: PM Modi on India’s rising startup culture

Speaking at the 19th edition of Rozgar Mela, Prime Minister Modi said that India has become the third largest startup ecosystem in the world. He confirmed that the change can be seen not only in big cities but also in tier 1 and 2 cities of the country.
“A new culture of self-employment and entrepreneurship has developed in the country in the last few years. India is the 3rd largest startup ecosystem in the world. There are over 2,30,000 well-known startups in the country… This change is not limited to big cities only. Nowadays, many young people from tier 2 and tier 2 cities are also showing their strength… The role of women’s power in this change is also constantly increasing.”
He also stated that India’s youth have left a significant mark in every global arena and their vibrant spirit and dynamic energy must now be deeply integrated into the country’s public services.
“Today, the youth of India are making their mark in every field of the world. The same spirit and the same energy must be reflected in public services. India will develop with the efforts of these young people who see their job as a means of serving the nation and the people… I have full faith that the young people who received their appointment letters today will give a new impetus to India’s development journey,” he said.
The Prime Minister also underlined that the current generation of young Indians is witnessing an era of unprecedented opportunities to progress and achieve their goals. The Prime Minister stated that numerous paths have been opened in many sectors and asked young people to focus on the expanding economic environment.
The Prime Minister pointed out that targeted flagship programs such as the PM-SETU (Pradhan Mantri Skills and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs) initiative are the key drivers of this structural overhaul. Prime Minister Modi said, “Today, the youth of India have opportunities to progress and realize their dreams like never before. The truth is that everything is happening at a very fast pace, on a large scale and full of diversity. Today, countless opportunities await us in many sectors, including manufacturing, technology, start-ups, digital services, railways, defense and most importantly, space.” he said.
“Our endeavor is to ensure that as many young people as possible benefit from new opportunities. That is why there is constant emphasis on skill development, industry tie-ups, education and future technology. IITs are being modernized. National Skill Training Institutes are being strengthened. Programs like PM Setu are working in this direction,” he added.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that countries around the world are quite excited about the country’s youth and technological advancements.
Sharing insights from his recently concluded five-nation tour, he highlighted a common sentiment among global corporate and political leaders regarding India’s growth trajectory.
PM Modi said: “I just returned from a five-country trip two days ago. It was a trip that covered only five countries, but during this time I spoke, had detailed discussions and met with leaders of major companies from dozens of countries, and everywhere I felt a common thread: The world is very excited about India’s youth and India’s technological advancement.”
