MP Kodikunnil Suresh alleged that there was a deep-seated conspiracy behind police brutality during the eviction operation at Pariyathukavu in Vazhakkulam. He stated that the police had approached the colony 14 times in the past to enforce the Supreme Court’s eviction order but always maintained complete restraint. This is highly suspicious and requires a serious investigation into why the police unleashed large-scale force just hours after the new government finalized portfolio allocation and the new Home Affairs Minister took charge, he added.
Mr. Suresh noted that it is natural for the police force to have the basic common sense to understand the stance and approach of a newly elected government on such sensitive issues. He observed that if the police had bypassed such considerations to impose such an aggressive crackdown, it could only be seen as a calculated conspiracy hatched jointly by the CPI(M) and some police officers who held key positions under the previous administration.
The MP also criticized the CPI(M) for its double standards and stated that the party has not initiated any out-of-court settlement or rehabilitation measures for residents of the colony in the last decade. He questioned the reason behind the CPI(M) launching mass protests in just two days against the new government, which had already announced its commitment to take concrete steps for the rehabilitation of the residents. Mr. Suresh also demanded a thorough and high-level investigation into the alleged conspiracy that led to violence in the colony.
