The UK is bracing for a temperature rise of 33 degrees, with 25 regions predicted to see the hottest conditions.
Met Office deputy head of forecasting Steve Kocher said: “Temperatures will rise over the weekend, particularly in the south, with 30°C likely to be recorded on Saturday and 32°C on Sunday. Temperatures are forecast to peak on Monday, where we could see 33°C recorded in southern England and the Midlands.”
Areas covered here are: Staffordshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Herefordshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Kent, Greater London, East Sussex, West Sussex, Dorset.
The Met Office also warned people heading to the coast to “be careful that sea surface temperatures are not as high as in mid-summer”.
This means swimming still carries risks as the water may still be dangerously cold.
