The initiative follows a major policy announcement last week in which Adhikari outlined a two-pronged strategy that includes accelerated fencing work and tougher administrative measures against illegal immigration.
West Bengal shares a 2,217 km border with Bangladesh, the longest among Indian states.
According to Adhikari, around 1,600 kilometers of the border in the state is currently fenced, while around 600 kilometers of the border has no fencing.
