Body of teenage boy found after he went missing while swimming in Lincoln lake

A body was found during the search for a young boy who got into trouble at a lake in Lincoln.

Emergency services were called to Swanholme Lakes at 2.30pm on Sunday following reports that 15-year-old Declan Sawyer had gone into the water and was missing.

In a statement on Sunday evening, Lincolnshire Police said: “We can say that our dive team has unfortunately located a body in the water at Swanholme Lakes in Lincoln.

“With family confirmation, we can share that the deceased child is 15-year-old Declan Sawyer.

“Our thoughts are with his family and we offer our condolences at this incredibly difficult time.

“This is a very sad incident and will undoubtedly affect many of Declan’s friends and the local community.”

Officers searched the lakes for the boy with the help of an underwater search team.

“As we start half-term week, we want everyone in our community affected to feel confident that they are being looked after and people are encouraged to seek help and support where they need it,” a force spokesman said.

Lincolnshire Police has asked people not to speculate or share information that does not come from an official source.

They added: “We respectfully ask people not to speculate or share information that does not come from an official source, as misinformation can be very upsetting to family and friends.”
