A search operation to track down suspected terrorists believed to be hiding in the dense forests of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district entered its third consecutive day on Monday (May 25, 2026), officials said.

A joint team of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched the operation in the area on Saturday, May 23, 2026, following specific inputs regarding the movement of suspected terrorists.

Following the launch of ‘Operation Sheruwali’, a clash broke out between terrorists and security forces in Dorimal-Gambhir Moghla belt on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

“The operation to capture suspected terrorists continues under a strong cordon. Surveillance has also been activated,” they said.

Officials said joint teams armed with drones and detection dogs expanded searches into adjacent areas, intensified operations and strengthened the cordon by sending additional troops to find suspected terrorists believed to be hiding in the area.

The operation led to a brief firefight after contact was established with suspected terrorists and led security forces to continue extensive searches of the forested area.

According to initial findings, the movement of 2-3 terrorists was suspected in the region.

The army’s White Knight Corps X said that during an intelligence-based joint operation with the police and CRPF, contact was made with the terrorists in Gambhir Moghla general area around 11:30 am on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
