Cowboys head coach Schottenheimer selling McKinney home to move closer

The Dallas Cowboys have played their home games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, since 2009. For the past decade, the team’s headquarters and training facility have been located at The Star in Frisco, approximately 35 miles from the stadium.
Meanwhile, second-year Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer lives in McKinney, Texas, about a 30-minute drive from the team facility. To reduce daily transportation expenses, Schottenheimer put his sprawling McKinney home up for sale in exchange for a property closer to the team facility.
The listing agent for Schottenheimer’s soon-to-be former home said proximity to work ultimately led to the NFL coach’s decision to move.
“It’s really a time to get closer to work, and when you’re at this level for him, every minute counts,” said Carrie Himel, a member of Compass Sports and Entertainment. Dallas Morning News.

The 5,700-square-foot home was listed for $3.8 million as of mid-April, according to Zillow. The Collin County Appraisal District assessed the property’s value for tax purposes at approximately $2 million.
Himel added that the house quickly attracted buyers.

“This is a special, calm oasis,” Himel said. “Every window or every space in this house looks out onto nature. So this is a really special property, it just needed a special buyer. We were lucky to get one pretty quickly.”
McKinney is located approximately 17 miles from The Star. It’s unclear exactly where Schottenheimer plans to buy his next home.

According to the listing, the four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom home was built in 2021, and interior amenities include a screening room and an infinity pool. The garage can accommodate three cars.
Schottenheimer was promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach in January 2025 following the departure of Mike McCarthy.

The home’s nature-filled setting gave the Schottenheimer family the opportunity to interact with local wildlife.

In late October, Schottenheimer recalled an unusual moment during a game-planning meeting before a game against the Arizona Cardinals when an owl flew through an open sliding door and flew into his house. The family then contacted animal control to remove the bird.
The Cowboys finished 7-9-1 in Schottenheimer’s first year at the helm and fell short of advancing to the playoffs.
