Dozens evacuated as bomb squad swarms Bristol homes: ‘Suspicious’ man is arrested as cordon remains in place

After a bomb team descending to a street in Bristol, a man ‘suspicious’ man was arrested after his arrest.

The police were informed of concerns that someone on a property in South Liberty Lane could have potentially access to explosives around 18.00 on Tuesday.

Officers, police, fire and ambulance personnel running to the scene closed the road to the public.

The street with 63 houses on it remains closed and is taken under the cord with a large event status.

Avon and Somperset police confirmed that they had taken the suspect safely detained and arrested at 19.10 and added that they were not injured.

The explosive Ordnance disposal (EOD) unit arrived about 40 minutes later to investigate whether the property was safe.

The team continues to work at the scene supported by expert officers.

The force said: ‘A arrest was made after the reports of a suspicious man at an address in Southern Bristol.

There are 63 properties in South Liberty Lane, Risdale Road and Switzerland Lane in that area. Ashton Vale community center in Risdale Road is open to supporting these inhabitants if necessary.
