Man who drove car at officers, cop station faces court

A man accused of plowing his car into several police officers and crashing into the local police station will appear in court.
The 67-year-old man allegedly drove his car into police officers on foot patrol in Mudgee, central west NSW, and fled when they tried to stop him.
A short time later, the same man was accused of driving towards an officer leaving Mudgee police station, crashing into the front foyer.
No one was injured in either incident.
The man was charged with destruction of property with intent to endanger life, two counts of using an offensive weapon, failing to stop during a police pursuit, careless driving and possession of a knife in a public place.
He is due to appear in Bail Division court on Saturday morning.
The incident took place on the day a 40-year veteran police officer left his job for the last time and was about to retire.
A service for Detective Senior Constable Scott Whale was due to be held at 2pm.
Before the alleged incident, Det Sen Const Whale reflected on his four decades of service.
“When I started we were using typewriters… everything was so different,” he told 2MG Mudgee radio.
“When you talk about the hallmarks of a police officer, we often see someone on their worst day and we can make it a little better, or I can prepare them for a briefing that will prosecute someone who has done wrong.”
Police are expected to deal with the incident on Saturday morning.
