Donald Trump in ‘excellent health’ and ‘fully fit’ to serve, his physician says

washington: Donald Trump’s doctor said the US president is in “excellent health” and “fully prepared” to serve as commander in chief following a medical examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday (Washington time).
A report by Dr. Sean Barbabella released late Friday said Trump underwent CT scans and other heart imaging, as well as cancer screenings and other preventive evaluations conducted by 22 specialists.
Trump, 79, said everything was checked “PERFECTLY” after the three-hour visit on Tuesday.
The President gained 6 kilograms after the medical examination in April 2025, reaching 108 kilograms. His doctors guided him on his diet, physical activity and weight loss but concluded that his “cognitive and physical performance were excellent.”
With a height of 1.9 meters, Trump’s body mass index is 29.7. An index of 30 is considered obese by doctors.
The report also documented bruises on Trump’s hands, described as “mild soft tissue irritation due to frequent handshaking,” and said it was a “common and benign effect of aspirin therapy.” Recommendations included switching to low-dose aspirin.
Last year, the White House announced that Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, which is very common in older adults and causes blood to pool in the president’s legs. The last examination report stated that there was “slight swelling in the leg” but that there was “improvement compared to last year”.
He was given the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, which is also used to screen for dementia and cognitive impairment. Trump’s doctors reported that he scored 30 out of 30, the same as last year and in 2018.
With the help of medications, cholesterol levels improved significantly. Trump’s total cholesterol dropped from 223 to 143 in 2018. It had dropped to 140 last April. He takes rosuvastatin to lower his bad cholesterol, known as LDL, and raise his good cholesterol (HDL). He also uses ezetimibe to lower LDL.
The exam, which Trump described as a six-month physical, was his fourth publicly disclosed medical exam since returning to office for a second term. This comes as he tries to show strength ahead of midterm elections.
Republican Trump turns 80 next month, making him the oldest person to be elected president of the United States. His predecessor, Democrat Joe Biden, was 82 when he left office and withdrew from the 2024 presidential race amid widespread concerns that he was too old for the job.
Trump sought to allay public concerns about his age and durability. He often covers the bruises on his hands with makeup, and photos show the president with swollen feet, ankles and calves.
