Migrant Labourer Beaten To Death By Mob For ‘Misbehaving’ With Woman

Chennai : A migrant worker was beaten to death by a gang in Thiruvallur district after he allegedly misbehaved with a woman, police said on Saturday. The victim was identified as Prosenjit Das (35), who had come to Thiruvallur along with six laborers from Assam in search of work and was staying in a rented room.

Initial investigation revealed that Das, under the influence of alcohol, misbehaved with a woman at her home on the pretext of asking for drinking water. However, the woman had to close the door and enter her house for security reasons.

When the defendant started damaging the windows with a knife, the woman called her relatives. A group of relatives and some local residents gathered at the scene and allegedly attacked Das, who later succumbed to his injuries.

A case has been registered and investigation is ongoing.
