Former England footballer Raheem Sterling was arrested on suspicion of drug use after crashing his Lamborghini. Independent he understands.
The 31-year-old former Manchester City striker is understood to have crashed his Lamborghini into the barriers of the southbound M3 motorway near Minley Junction shortly before 9am on Thursday, May 28.
Hampshire Police said a 31-year-old man from Berkshire was arrested on suspicion of drug-impaired driving, dangerous driving, possession of Class C drugs and failure to provide a sample.
Police said that there were no injuries in the accident and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
A source close to Sterling said: Independent He said it had been an “extremely difficult few years” for the footballer and “this incident encompasses that”.
They said the incident “brings to light the modern treatment of players who are no longer ‘fit for purpose'” and added that “the psychological pressure it has put on him is immeasurable”.
The former Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal star will be playing for Dutch Eredivisie club Feyenoord, with whom he signed a contract in February, until the end of the season.
He played for England between 2012 and 2022 and was awarded the FWA Footballer of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year awards while playing for Manchester City.
