Alexander played one of the most endearing misanthropes in television history.

He revealed in 2024 that his most memorable moment on Costanza came in the third season episode titled Red Dot, in which the character became romantically involved with the cleaning lady in his office.

While appearing on Australian TV show The Project, he said: “The episode that I remember very clearly, because I thought it was so amazing, was an episode where George was working for a broadcasting company and he had sexual intercourse with the cleaning lady in his office and got caught.”

‘If you’re writing that scene and you say: ‘okay I’ve got this guy named George Costanza, what happens next? Whatever you think, that wouldn’t be what they came up with.’

Alexander then repeated George’s immortal rebuttal: ‘Is this wrong?’

He explained that the way creators Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David created George’s reaction to the challenging situation gave the actor incredible insight into George’s mind.

‘This is the most brilliant attempt I can imagine to save your own back,’ he said.

‘When I first saw the script and saw that this was the approach they came up with, that was a big insight for me into who that character was.’
