Prosecutors drop one charge against ex-shock jock Alan Jones

Prosecutors have withdrawn a charge against Alan Jones as he prepares to fight allegations of indecent assault and sexual touching in a blockbuster trial later this year.

Mr Jones, 84, had previously pleaded not guilty to 27 charges, including 25 of indecent assault and two of sexual touching, relating to nine victims between 2009 and 2020.

But the number of charges he will face at trial were reduced after prosecutors dropped a charge of indecent assault against a complainant in Sydney’s Downing Center Local Court on Tuesday.

“Proceedings are being stayed, this happened overnight,” Mr Jones’ lawyer, Bryan Wrench, told the court on Tuesday.

The charge, which was withdrawn on Tuesday, concerned Mr Jones allegedly touching and grabbing the person known only as “Complainant K” at an event in Tamworth in 2013.

No reason was given in court as to why he withdrew.

This means Mr Jones will only face eight victim-alleged charges when he faces the Local Court trial, which is scheduled to begin in August and is expected to last four months.

According to court documents, the alleged offenses occurred in Sydney, Fitzroy Falls, Kiama, Mittagong and at his workplace and home.

Mr Jones vehemently denied the allegations following his first court appearance in December 2024.

“I never inappropriately assaulted these people,” he said at the time.

“The law assumes I am innocent and not guilty.

“I emphasize that I will defend each charge to the jury when the time comes.”

Mr Jones’ matter will return to court next week.
