The UK city that’s the speed camera capital – not London or Manchester | UK | News

The UK’s speed camera city has been crowned with an unusual area that is home to the most speed cameras per square mile in the country. The average placement of speed cameras means that the city in question has the highest placement of speed cameras. The abundance of speed cameras puts it ahead of London on average.
The capital has 1.93 cameras per square mile, coming second on the list, while Bradford leads the way with the most. The West Yorkshire city has 2.18 cameras per square mile, the highest density in the entire country for keeping an eye on traffic.
Dewsbury, another West Yorkshire town, comes fifth on the list with a density of 1.74 speed cameras per square mile. Psychologist Dr. Gandolfi hjas explained the main factors for placing so many traffic cameras per square kilometer.
Gandolfi said: “Overall, key factors include lighter traffic, more recreational driving, and drivers may perceive they are less likely to face enforcement measures.
“In some subgroups, particularly young drivers, passengers are more likely to be in the vehicle with the driver in the evenings and on weekends, increasing the risk of peer pressure influencing the driver’s decision-making and risky behavior.
“Also at night, drivers are more likely to experience fatigue and alcohol/drug effects, which affects their judgment of their own speed and the speeds appropriate for the conditions.
“Driving at night also poses increased difficulties in gathering visual information from the traffic environment, especially in less populated areas where ambient light is low. Older drivers are more likely to encounter difficulties with glare and reduced contrast sensitivity when driving in low-light conditions.”
