After partial collapse, push to restore Radhakrishnan’s bungalow in Mysuru

Concern over the future of former President and philosopher Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s heritage bungalow during his tenure as a professor at the University of Mysore came to the fore in the university’s first academic council meeting of the academic year on Monday, following the recent collapse of a part of the historic structure.
The bungalow located in Saraswathipuram was occupied by Dr. while he was teaching Philosophy at Mysore University. It served as the residence of Radhakrishnan. The building was restored to its original glory approximately 12 years ago. However, Dr. The recent collapse of a part of the S. Radhakrishnan Center for Philosophy and Indian Culture has triggered fresh concerns about the preservation of this landmark.
Raising the issue in the meeting, K. Vivekananda, MLC, urged the university to submit proposals to State and Union governments seeking financial assistance for restoration and preservation of the heritage structure.
He also said that he discussed the issue with the Department of Archeology and Museums and requested urgent intervention to preserve and renovate the damaged building. The center was closed to students as a precaution.
MLC suggested that the university collaborate with leading industrialists and corporate bodies to mobilize funds through CSR initiatives for infrastructure development and academic advancement.
Vice-Chancellor MK Lokanath informed the meeting that an action plan would be prepared to address the concerns raised by the members.
