India To Remain World’s Fastest Growing Economy For Next Two Decades: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi: India will continue to be the world’s fastest-growing major economy over the next two decades, driven by strong fundamentals, manufacturing growth and rising global investor confidence, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said on Thursday. Speaking at the Citi India Conference 2026, he said: “My recent interactions with international investors reflected strong confidence in India’s future prospects. India’s growth story has continued to attract interest from investors around the world.”
The minister also said that India has completed nine free trade agreements (FTAs) in the last three and a half years and India will implement at least 2-3 free trade agreements in the next six months. “India has already implemented its FTA with Mauritius, UAE, Australia, Oman and the EFTA bloc and 3-4 other such agreements are expected to come into force in 2027,” he said, adding that separate agreements have been signed with the UK and New Zealand.
“On June 1, Oman-FTA came into force. In the next six months, you will see at least two or three more comprehensive free trade agreements come into force. Next year, you will see us sign at least three or four more significant free trade agreements and all nine free trade agreements come into force in the next nine to ten months,” Goyal said.
The minister also urged the industry to invest in long-term capital as early capital will get the best returns. Talking about the West Asian crisis, he said that in the field of energy, the world has seen how India has fared in the global crisis in the last few months. “While the world was facing severe inflation, India has managed to mitigate it,” he said.
