Man critical after alleged laneway stabbing by teens

A man is in critical condition after he was allegedly stabbed by a group of teenagers and went to a nearby sports bar to seek help.

Emergency services were called to the venue on Hargreaves Street in the central Victorian town of Bendigo at around 9pm on Thursday.

This follows reports that an injured man entered the bar with suspected stab wounds.

The 41-year-old man, who was in a serious condition, was taken to hospital before being treated by paramedics at the scene.

Police believe the man was sleeping rough and was attacked by up to six criminals following an argument in nearby Bath Lane.

The attackers, believed to be young men, allegedly fled the scene, leaving the injured man alone to seek help.

Police asked anyone with information to come forward after the culprits were not found during a preliminary search.

Detectives are expected to visit the area again Friday morning.
