Jumanji actor James Handy allegedly killed by girlfriend’s son, police say

Actor James Handy, known for a variety of roles in films such as “Jumanji” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” was allegedly killed this week by his girlfriend’s son, police said.

The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to a residence in the 19200 block of Erwin Avenue Wednesday morning.

According to police, a 911 caller said: “I am a human being, I just killed the man of sin.”

When officers arrived at the scene, they found 81-year-old Handy unconscious in the front yard with a stab wound to the chest.

Officials said Handy was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

LAPD identified the suspect as 44-year-old Michael Gledhill of Tarzana.

According to investigators, Gledhill flagged down officers when they arrived and told them he was the person they were looking for.

Police said Gledhill lived at the home with his mother, who was Handy’s girlfriend.

Gledhill was arrested and booked into Van Nuys Prison on murder charges. Bail was set at $2 million.

According to IMDb, Handy has amassed nearly 150 acting credits throughout his career spanning nearly five decades.

In addition to his film roles, he has made guest appearances on numerous television shows throughout his career, including “The West Wing,” “9-1-1” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.”
