Wendy Gledhill has broken her silence after her boyfriend James Handy was allegedly stabbed by his son Michael Gledhill.
The 81-year-old actor received critical acclaim for his roles in films such as Arachnophobia, Jumanji, Unbreakable, Logan and Top Gun: Maverick, in which he played Jimmy. It was announced that the artist died following a stab wound to his chest on Thursday, June 4.
James’ girlfriend Wendy’s son, Michael, was arrested on suspicion of murder a short time later and remains in police custody. The Mirror US reports.
Wendy’s first public statement follows the Jumanji actor’s last public appearance before he was fatally stabbed by his girlfriend’s son.
“I’m just trying to get through every day, every minute,” the 76-year-old actress told The California Post on June 5, adding: “I loved James and my son.”
She continued, before retreating to her home in Tarzana, California: “I can’t believe my son did this. I’m just trying to…” She previously revealed to TMZ that her son had been diagnosed with schizophrenia in the past but had stopped taking his prescription medications before the alleged incident.

On Thursday, June 4, Los Angeles police confirmed that they had launched a murder investigation following an extremely disturbing 911 call. According to the information obtained, the murder suspect called the emergency services and said, “I am a human being, I just killed the man of sin.”
When police arrived at the property, they found the actor lying unconscious in the front yard of the residence, apparently suffering from a stab wound to the chest. The 81-year-old was pronounced dead after he was transported to a local hospital.
“The suspect has been identified as 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, a resident of Tarzana,” investigators said in a press release. “He was arrested and transported to Van Nuys Jail where he was booked on a murder charge.”

Wendy also shared a message with James’ family and friends. “They know I love him so much. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry this happened. I’m still in shock. I still can’t understand it,” she said.
James’ career has spanned 45 years, with dozens of film and television appearances to his name, including well-known favorites like Jumanji, The X-Files, Law and Order, and NCIS: Los Angeles.
Michael is being held on $2 million bail. Investigators have not revealed a motive for the senseless murder, nor have they confirmed whether Wendy’s claims that her son had been diagnosed with mental health issues before the stabbing were true.
