A murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in East London. Metropolitan Police officers were called to Pankhurst Avenue in Silvertown at around 9am on Friday, June 5, to reports of a stabbing.

Police said officers attended the scene, along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, and found a 35-year-old man with stab wounds in the garden of a property near Rayleigh Road. Despite all the efforts of the medical teams, it was announced that the person who was taken to the hospital died. The Met said his relatives had been informed and were supported by specialist officers.

Another man in his 20s was taken to hospital after suffering multiple stab wounds. Police said the man remains in hospital, where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

Two men, aged 27 and 24, and a 25-year-old woman were arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody.

The murder investigation was launched by homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, according to a statement on Friday evening.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, who is leading the investigation, said: “My thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the dead man.

“I know the community will be understandably concerned about the incident. There is a large police presence in the area and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to officers at the scene.

“Three people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing and our investigations continue apace. I would appeal to anyone with information or CCTV footage that could assist our investigation to contact police.”
