Nepal Wants To Resolve Boundary Row Through diplomacy : Nepal FM Khanal

New Delhi : Nepal wants to resolve its border dispute with India through diplomacy as no problem will be too big if both sides confront it with an “open heart”, Nepalese Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal said on Sunday. Khanal said the new government in Kathmandu refuses to look at India through the “distorted, hypersensitive lens of 21st century geopolitics” and instead wants to build a mutually beneficial relationship for the overall well-being of both nations.
Nepal’s foreign minister’s remarks at the media interaction came a day after he held wide-ranging talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Khanal began a three-day trip to New Delhi on Friday in a bid to strengthen bilateral relations; this visit was overshadowed by the fierce debate triggered by Nepali Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s recent statements regarding the border dispute between the two sides.
Khanal said when we sit down frankly, no problem is too big and no boundary is too complex.
“We look at India with an open heart, clear eyes and a single, transparent agenda: Nepal’s economic transformation,” he said.
“Instead of embarking on an ultra-nationalist demonstration, we are taking a calm, data-driven approach to resolve the issues,” Khanal said.
He also praised India’s economic growth.
“Looking beyond the border, we see a Rising India that is fundamentally and beautifully redefining itself as a dynamic, fast-growing technology and economic powerhouse on the global stage,” he said.
“We want to engage with this India of great ambition and advanced technology. In return, we are bringing the energy of Targeted Nepal,” he added. PTI MPB
