West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday, June 7, 2026, said that 4,800 “illegal infiltrators” from Bangladesh, who do not fall under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, have been deported to Bangladesh in the last one month.
“The Government of India has a law according to which [illegal infiltrators] Can be handed over to the Border Security Force [BSF] This law has also been used by other States, but here [in West Bengal]They were treated as guests and placed in prisons, fed with our food, given our clothes and treated with our medicines,” said Mr. Adhikari, speaking at an event titled ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Prashikshan Maha Abhiyan 2026’ organized by the West Bengal BJP.

Mr. Adhikari said holding centers have been set up in the state’s border areas and 836 “illegal spies” held in the holding centers will soon be deported to Bangladesh. He also mentioned that undocumented migrants voluntarily crossed into the neighboring country from Hakimpur border post in North 24 Parganas district.
The Prime Minister also said that the demography of West Bengal had changed long ago and deportation of “illegal spies” was being done on a priority basis by the West Bengal government. On May 20, Mr. Adhikari said his government’s policy on “illegal spies” was to “identify, delete and deport.”

The Chief Minister said that around 100 km of land has been handed over to BSF since the BJP government came to power and priority has been given to the strategically important “Chicken’s Neck” region of north Bengal. Mr. Adhikari said the biggest problem facing the BJP government was “illegal infiltration” and provision of land to BSF.
According to the Prime Minister, West Bengal shares a 2,216 km border with Bangladesh, of which around 556 km is unfenced.
