Reese Witherspoon burst into tears after learning that The Morning Show is officially ending.
Witherspoon, 50, and her co-star Jennifer Aniston, 57, shared touching posts just hours after Apple TV+ announced that the series would end after its fifth season.
The fifth and final season, which wrapped filming on Wednesday night, will premiere in 2027 and will reunite Aniston and Witherspoon with Mark Duplass, Billy Crudup, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie and Jon Hamm.
The program will also add new talent to the roster, including Jeff Daniels, Renee Rapp, Jesse Williams, Sean Hayes and Lizzy Caplan.
While Aniston and Witherspoon know this season will be their last, it will take time to process it.
Aniston, who has settled into her newly renovated Montecito property, shared photos from the Los Angeles set on Instagram; These include a photo of Duplass, who plays Charlie ‘Chip’ Black and a longtime confidant of Aniston’s character Alex, giving Aniston and a crying Witherspoon a comforting hug.

Another photo showed the Friends alum and Witherspoon sitting in high chairs and laughing.
The third photo showed an empty control room with screens showing Aniston and Witherspoon having what appeared to be a closing encounter.
‘He laughs and cries. The final season of @themorningshow is coming… LOTS More to come. @appletv,” Aniston wrote in the caption.
Witherspoon treated fans of the series to a video of behind-the-scenes moments on Instagram: a hug with Aniston; both point to a gold plaque commemorating The Morning Show; Enjoying an outdoor conversation with Crudup; during a coffee break in front of his caravan; and hanging out with other members of the cast and crew.
Witherspoon wrote on the glimpses: ‘Eight years ago, we decided to tell a story about the people who brought us the news… A story about ambition, truth and power.
‘For five seasons, these characters challenged each other and us. Because journalism is not just about telling a story, it is about finding humanity.
‘But you’re only as good as the people you work with… and wow, how lucky am I to work with the BEST?!
The Legally Blonde star continued: ‘Thank you to every cast and crew member who brought this story to life. Now… who’s ready for an even more intense and dramatic final season of The Morning Show?!’
The Morning Show wrapped its final episode on Wednesday night, and the stars were clearly feeling emotional in the moment shared by Witherspoon.
Witherspoon and Aniston accepted this as a reality based on the show’s conclusion set in 2010.

“This has been an amazing creative experience that I will always cherish,” Witherspoon said in a statement released early Thursday.
In a statement made earlier in the day, Aniston waxed philosophical, saying: ‘Knowing that this would be our last, we were very fortunate to come to the conclusion consciously and honor these characters in the way they deserved.
‘Apple has supported our vision for The Morning Show from the beginning, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to tell stories that reflect darkly humorous aspects of what’s happening in the world around us.’
The star, who, like Witherspoon, is also an executive producer on the show, added: ‘It has been such a privilege to work with this incredibly talented cast and our incredible writers, producers and crew. We have become such a family that we are all so excited to share this final season.
“This has always been more than a show about a newsroom; it’s a show about why the newsroom matters,” Witherspoon said in a statement. ‘About journalists who protect press freedom and the fourth estate, often at great cost. Telling this story has been the creative privilege of my career.’
He concluded by thanking Apple, the writers, the crew and the cast: ‘This has been an amazing creative experience that I will always cherish.’
The Morning Show’s shock ending comes weeks after Aniston bid an emotional farewell to ‘father figure’ James Burrows following his death.
While Aniston and Witherspoon know this season will be their last, it will take time to process it.
The famous television director, who made productions such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Taxi, Cheers, Frasier, Will and Grace, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Two and a Half Men, Mike and Molly and The Big Bang Theory, passed away on June 19 at the age of 85.
Aniston admitted that while filming Friends, she felt “pressure” to create a message that matched the love she always showed for herself and her co-stars.
‘Oh boy… Papa Burrows. “The hardest part about writing this is that you’ve spent a lifetime making people feel loved, and now it feels impossible to fit all that love into a few paragraphs,” she shared.
‘He called us ‘his children’ – ‘Where are the children? “Let’s see if the kids can pull off the joke.” ‘No pressure.’
Aniston added: ‘Her incredible children have been generous enough to share her with all of us lucky enough to experience her unicorn existence.
‘He was a father figure to me. He always checked up on me. He worried about me, celebrated me, taught me, guided me, and supported me through the toughest and best times. ‘He spoiled us so much.’
‘Most importantly, she taught us – children – how important it is to love and respect each other,’ the actress concluded. To take care of each other. To have each other’s backs and support each other no matter what. That’s exactly what we did (sic)’
