Yemeni Houthis claim responsibility for missile attack on Israel

According to the Associated Press, pro-Iran Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed an attack on Israel and said Israeli ships would again be targets in the Red Sea.

Brigadier General Yahya Saree’s statement was broadcast on the Houthis’ al-Masirah satellite news channel on Monday.

This is a new escalation as the so-called ceasefire in the Iran war is strained by the crossfire between Israel and Iran.

The Houthis’ threat to target shipping once again endangers the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the narrow Bab al-Mandeb Strait connecting them.

The Houthis killed at least nine sailors and sank four ships in more than 100 attacks during the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip. These attacks disrupted shipping in the Red Sea, through which nearly $1 trillion worth of goods passed each year before the war.
