‘Wasn’t even good’: US tourist says she was charged €44 for two ice creams in Rome | Italy

A US tourist has warned visitors to Rome after paying 44 euros (£38) for two ice creams in the Italian capital.
Nicole Ann from Florida advised her fellow tourists to “stay away from Don Nino,” an ice cream parlor on Piazza Navona street. He claimed to have ordered two small cups of ice cream but was instead charged for two large cones decorated with decorations that were allegedly not requested, including macarons, cannoli and ice cream. panna (whipped cream).
Sharing the photo of the receipt dated June 3 on one page Facebook group Giving Rome travel tips, Nicole Ann wrote: “We stopped for gelato and asked for 2 small cups” but the server “gave us the smallest size cup and said we had 3 scoops” and then “started adding items we didn’t want like cannoli and macarons, implying it was free”.
Nicole Ann said she didn’t realize the bill was 44 euros until she looked at the receipt because it looked like the server said 14 euros. He said the ice cream was “not even good” and described it as “the worst” of all the ice creams he had tasted during his 10 days in Rome.
Nicole Ann claimed that she ordered two small cups and that her purchase was served in cups. The receipt lists two maxi cones at €12 each; panna For ice creams, two pistachio cannoli for 10 euros and two macarons for 6 euros, bringing the total to 44 euros.
Don Nino has several branches in central Rome, with its main branch opposite the Spanish Steps. The company, which describes its ice cream products as “an authentic taste of quality” on its website, declined to comment when contacted by the Guardian.
Nicole Ann’s post sparked more than 900 comments from Italians and foreign tourists. “As an Italian living in Italy, I feel ashamed,” one commenter wrote.
Another questioned whether Nicole Ann checked prices before ordering. In response, he claimed he “hadn’t seen prices anywhere” and assumed the cost would be similar after eating lots of ice cream during his trip.
The Guardian visited the Don Nino store near Piazza Navona and the price list was clearly visible; One scoop in a small cup or cone cost €6, and for three scoops in a large cup or cone it doubled to €12.
