A rogue swimmer who tried to evade police by diving into New York City’s Central Park lake was arrested Monday, authorities said.
Officers from the New York Police Department (NYPD) initially attempted to arrest the man in Harlem on petty theft charges, the NYPD told Fox News Digital.

Determined to escape custody, the 23-year-old suspect fled to nearby Central Park and dove into the Harlem Meer, an 11-acre lake at the northeastern end of the park.

A burglary suspect who jumped into a lake in Central Park while fleeing authorities on Monday has been arrested, police said. (WNYW)
The video captured an NYPD helicopter flying just over the lake as the suspect attempted to swim to the opposite shore.

NYPD divers eventually entered the water, captured and arrested the swimmer, police said. He was transported to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital in stable condition.
