President Murmu to confer Padma awards on June 23

President Droupadi Murmu will present the coveted Padma awards to actors and dignitaries, including R. Madhavan as well as Satish Shah, whose relatives will receive the award posthumously, in the second round of the civil appointment ceremony on June 23, officials said on Monday, June 8, 2026.
The President has approved the awarding of 131 Padma awards this year: five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri. He had gifted two Padma Vibhushans, six Padma Bhushans and 58 Padma Shris at the ceremony on May 25.
The remaining awards will be given in the second round of the ceremony to be held on June 23 at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Legendary Malayalam actor Mammootty, who has acted in a wide range of 400 films in various languages throughout his 50-year career and has earned respect for his philanthropic work, will be presented with the Padma Bhushan award during the ceremony.
Madhavan, known as Maddy, who has appeared in 1,200 TV episodes and 75 films in Tamil, Hindi and other languages, will be awarded the Padma Shri.
Posthumous honors
Satish Shah, the ubiquitous face of the country’s first comedy series ‘Ye Jo Hai Zindagi’ and countless films and theatre, will be honored with the Padma Shri posthumously. Relatives will receive the award.
Telugu actor Gadde Babu Rajendra Prasad, known for his prolific work in 286 films in six languages throughout his career spanning over four decades, will also receive the Padma Shri from the President during the ceremony.
