On the first anniversary of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron paid tribute to the victims on Friday, June 12, 2026, saying her thoughts are with all the families affected by the tragedy. He said that there were 52 British citizens among the 260 people who died in the incident.

Ms Cameron reached the crash site in the city’s Meghaninagar area and presented flowers to those killed in the AI-171 plane crash on June 12 last year.
The London-bound flight crash killed 260 people, including 241 passengers and crew members and 19 on the ground. Only one passenger survived. Among the dead was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The plane crashed into the hostel complex of BJ Medical College 32 seconds after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport in Ahmedabad.

In a post on X, Ms Cameron said: “A year ago today, the tragic Air India crash killed 260 people, including 52 British nationals.” “I will never forget coming to Ahmedabad and visiting the area that day. My thoughts are with all the families affected and I thank my team who took immediate action to support them and continue to do so in the most difficult circumstances. I flew back to Ahmedabad with some of them today,” he added.

Ms Cameron later reached the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital campus to attend a prayer meeting held at BJ Medical College to pay tribute to the victims, including four MBBS students who were in their hostel when the plane crashed into the structure.
Civil Hospital Inspector Dr. “Lindy Cameron was among the dignitaries who remembered the souls of the deceased at the prayer meeting organized by junior doctors at BJ Medical College,” said Rakesh Joshi. After the meeting, students, doctors and other dignitaries planted 260 trees as a tribute to 260 deceased, he said, adding that Ms. Cameron left after the prayer meet. Later, junior doctors organized a blood donation camp at the facility as a tribute to the victims.
