Tesco has introduced a major new cleaning rule across its 600 stores in the UK. The major supermarket chain has started to introduce cleaning robots in its Express stores. Created in partnership with cleaning technology firm ICE, the new plan will enable robots to take over repetitive cleaning tasks for workshop staff, allowing employees to spend more time serving customers and managing other workshop tasks.

ICE said the robots, combined with technology that allows performance to be monitored through data tracking and reporting, will provide a more consistent standard of cleaning across Tesco’s convenience area.

Mark Bresnihan, chief executive of the technology firm, said the partnership between the firm and Tesco revealed how automation could support team retention rather than sitting apart from them. Retail Newspaper reports.

“As a long-time pioneer in cleaning technologies, ICE is delighted to partner with Tesco on this project,” he said.

“We not only provide our industry-leading autonomous machines, but also the comprehensive training and service support needed to make it a success.

“Together, we show how data-driven automation can work hand-in-hand with retail teams to improve cleaning standards.”

In other Tesco news, the supermarket has also changed its free delivery policy. Tesco is offering free delivery on orders over £25 via its Whoosh service. The limited-time promotion will be valid from June 11 to June 17.
