Trump says Iran deal will be signed tomorrow – ‘Strait open to all’ | World | News

Donald Trump said a peace agreement is planned to be signed tomorrow, with the Strait of Hormuz “open to everyone right away.” The US President said an agreement would be signed but warned of a ‘final alternative’ if the process fails.

Trump said in a post he shared on social media on Saturday afternoon that there were hours left for a ceasefire agreement. “The agreement is scheduled to be signed tomorrow and immediately after signing, the Strait of Hormuz will be OPEN TO EVERYONE,” he said on Truth Social.

However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei had previously said this afternoon that the signing of the agreement would not take place tomorrow. Mr Baghaei quickly blamed US “inconsistency” for the delay and added that Iran should “remain cautious”.

A senior White House administration official said that under the terms of the so-called memorandum of understanding (MOU), the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened and the United States will lift the embargo on Iranian ports. Iran’s highly enriched uranium will also be destroyed on site and then taken out of the country, the official said.

A Downing Street spokesman said:

“The Prime Minister spoke with the President of the United States. Donald Trumpthis afternoon.

“The Prime Minister expressed his support for President Trump’s efforts to end the conflict with Iran, welcoming the progress made and underlining the importance of ensuring that any agreement brings lasting and lasting peace.

“The Prime Minister reiterated that the UK stands ready to support the implementation of any peace agreement and work with international partners to ensure its success.

“Both leaders agreed that freedom of navigation must be restored to mitigate the economic impacts felt globally.

“They agreed to remain in close contact and looked forward to speaking at next week’s G7 summit.”
