24 July 2025 16:24 | News

A long -standing urban support center for Aboriginal women will receive a major cash injection to protect them from financial abuse.

The Mudgin-Gal Center in Sydney’s Redfern has been operating for more than thirty years and provides a safe space for women, mothers and facilities for women, mothers and families who have experienced domestic violence or homelessness.

Sometimes the center serves as a place to fall for only one yarn, and General Manager Ashlee Donohue, no matter who or what they experience, provides a shelter for women.

Mudgin-Gal’s important work is expanding with a mentoring from Commonwealth Bank to combat a grant up to $ 200,000 and financial abuse in society.

“This is very important to us,” Mrs. Donohue AAP said.

“We don’t guess the mentoring with this, we’re not guessing, we get appropriate information from the bank, and it’s remarkable.”

The grant is part of the innovation program that invests in initiatives led by the first countries to provide practical response to the Bank’s financial abuse.

Other program grant buyers include Cape York, Northern Peninsula region and the Strait of the Strait of Torres, which provides health and accommodation for women and children in the Queensland-based Mookai Rosie-Bi-Bay.

Mitchell Heritage, Manager of the domestic business products manager of Commonwealth Bank, said that the next episode innovation program helps financial abuse “breaking the cycle”.

Many women who are financially abusive may not be able to recognize it, so it is important to create financial literacy.

Donohue said, “Our women need to better understand financing,” Donohue said.

“In fact, we are always behind eight balls in this country – our ancestors worked for any fees – so sharing this skill and information in this field has not really been done before and innovation in itself.”
