Trump reportedly tells Putin he is prepared to help end war in Ukraine | Donald Trump

Donald Trump told Vladimir Putin that ending Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine is critical and that he is ready to help, Russia’s TASS news agency reported.

During a phone call on Sunday, Trump also informed the Russian President that the United States was moving closer to a peace agreement with Iran as the U.S.-Israeli war against the country continues, according to Yuri Ushakov, one of Putin’s advisers. The meeting between Trump and Putin, which lasted about an hour, was described by Ushakov as “friendly and cordial”.

Conflicts between Russia and Ukraine have continued for more than four years since Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The war now lasted longer than the first world war, which lasted 1,566 days. Peace talks have largely stalled, but Trump officials recently said they want the war in Ukraine to end “as quickly as possible,” according to a senior official briefing reporters during the G7 summit last week.

Ushakov said that during the 55-minute conversation, Putin also “unofficially” wished Trump a happy 80th birthday.

“Dear Mr. President, dear Donald, I wholeheartedly congratulate you, such a bright, remarkable person and politician, on your 80th birthday!” Putin said the following in his greeting on the Kremlin website, as reported by Russian news agencies.

In Putin’s greeting, it was stated that he “values the mutual understanding between us, which allows us to discuss even the most complex issues on the bilateral and international agenda in an open and sincere manner.”

“I am confident that together we can bring a truly new quality to Russian-American relations and at the same time do a lot to ensure security and stability on the world stage,” Putin wrote.

The two leaders last met in Alaska in August 2025 to reach a solution in the war between Ukraine and Russia.

Trump had previously said he planned to celebrate his birthday on Sunday with a cage match on the South Lawn of the White House. The $60 million “UFC Freedom 250” event will feature a 92-foot steel structure that some have compared to a coliseum and will host seven fight matches.
