The workers who built a nuclear power plant in Türkiye staged a rebellion after three months was paid. Mersin Güney is being built by the Russian State Energy Company Rosatom, Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Türkiye.
Both Turkish and Russian workers were hired to build the facility subcontractor by TSM Energy. However, TSM Energy is struggling to pay $ 58 million (£ 43 million) to Türkiye’s Social Security and State Insurance Fund (SSI). As a result, it is claimed that the construction workers in the facility are not paid and an angry reaction. The workers dropped the vehicles and walked towards the management building, chanting slogans and demanding payment.
Some blocked the roads and torn the cars as they took off their anger in TSM Enerji. While the Turkish police used water balls and tear gas to break the show, protesters threw stones to retaliate.
The brutal pressure of the protest was condemned by the Union of Revolutionary Construction and Road Workers. In a statement, “Mersin Akkuyu in the nuclear power plant area, protesting the conditions of poor working conditions for the last three months, construction workers, company offices trying to walk tear gas, batons and water balls attacked by the police.
“While the state institutions remain silent by the employer about wage theft, the workers respond with the police and the gendarmerie when they demand their rights.
“We rely on the construction workers who struggle and resist. We will change this modern slavery system.”
Russian workers’ families told the Soda News website that the number of personnel on the construction site fell from 12,000 to 3,000 in May, which began to emerge.
Already in March, Turkish workers went on strike and demanded the payment of wage payments.
However, the Russians were very afraid of participating on this occasion, fear that they could be fired and could lose their return tickets.
