Rotten lettuce, expired unlabelled vegetables among violations found at Subway outlet in Hyderabad’s Kondapur area

Rotten lettuce stored in the cooler, unlabelled cut vegetables exceeding the declared expiry date, presence of flies in the food preparation area and poor maintenance of washing facilities were among the various food safety violations detected during inspection at the Subway outlet at Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Kondapur on Tuesday.

The inspection was carried out by the food safety team of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) as part of the ongoing food safety monitoring exercise across Cyberabad.

Authorities found that incoming raw vegetables were not properly inspected at the time of purchase. Cut vegetables, including onions, tomatoes and lettuce, were stored without labels and some items were found beyond their declared expiration dates. While food waste was observed on the floor of the preparation area, flies were noticed in the food preparation area.

The inspection team also found that sink and washing areas were poorly maintained. Food processors’ medical fitness certificates, food test reports and water analysis reports were not available at the time of the audit. Food processors were also found to have inadequate awareness of safe food handling practices.

Rotten and unlabeled vegetables were destroyed at the scene as part of immediate corrective action. Officials said a ‘Remediation Notice’ will be issued to the business for observed violations and taking necessary corrective measures.
