Iran has launched several drones at commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz since Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on Sunday, a US official told NBC News.
The drones were deployed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the official said, adding that US forces intercepted and destroyed the aircraft before they could threaten commercial shipping or American personnel in the region.
NBC News reported that the Revolutionary Guard has conducted nightly drone launches since the agreement was signed electronically.

“I congratulate you all! I hereby authorize the free opening of the Strait of Hormuz and also authorize the immediate lifting of the blockade imposed by the US Navy.
“Ships of Earth, start your engines. Let the oil flow! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Pakistan has since said the agreement is expected to be officially signed in Switzerland on Friday.

While neither Washington nor Tehran has publicly confirmed the full contents of the agreement, Iranian state media has published details of what it described as a draft 14-point memorandum of understanding.
According to these reports, the proposed agreement will allow the US to lift the naval blockade within 30 days, while the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened within the scope of arrangements under Iranian supervision.
The waterway is one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes and plays a critical role in global energy supply.
Mr. Trump presented the agreement as a major diplomatic achievement, arguing that it would restore the flow of oil in the region and help ease international concerns about trade and energy security.
The US President once again reiterated his claim that “oil will flow around the world”, saying that this breakthrough will allow oil shipments to continue unhindered.
