Central prison authorities refute allegations made by former inmate

Bengaluru Central Jail authorities have rejected allegations made by a woman identified as Sandhya Nagaraj regarding the conditions and activities in the women’s wing of the prison.
According to the official statement made by the prison authorities, Sandhya Nagaraj, who was previously detained in the prison, recently made statements to some Kannada media organizations, alleging irregularities in the women’s section of the facility.
In response to these allegations, prison authorities conducted a surprise inspection of all rooms in the women’s ward on June 11, 2026, with the participation of female officers and staff. It was said that no prohibited substances were found during the inspection and all available materials comply with prison regulations.
The next day, the Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (South Zone), Bengaluru, visited the women’s wing and inspected the inmates and staff. Authorities stated that the investigation found no evidence to support the allegations made by Ms. Nagaraj.
Prison management also stated that two inmates and three staff members filed a complaint alleging that false accusations were made against them. Based on these complaints, the prison authorities requested legal action through Parappana Agrahara Police Station.
Based on the complaints, the cases were registered with an unknown report at Parappana Agrahara police station for further investigation.
The statement also referred to media reports alleging that convict Pavithra Gowda, an accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, was receiving special treatment in the women’s prison wing. The authorities categorically denied these allegations, stating that he was not granted any special privileges or facilities.
The statement was issued by the Superintendent of Police and Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Jail, who reiterated that the allegations circulating in some sections of the media were false and unsupported by official investigations.
