Noah’s Ark vessel is ‘real’ as huge excavation gets green light | World | News

The surprising boat-shaped structure high in the mountains of Türkiye may finally reveal its mysteries after researchers received permission for an extensive excavation. Researchers believe that the Durupınar Formation, located in eastern Türkiye, represents the final resting place of Noah’s Ark.
The Ark Surveys team has received official government permission to begin the most advanced scientific survey in history near Mount Ararat. The state-of-the-art expedition will use non-destructive core drilling, subsurface imaging and a specialized underground drone called “Gopher” to map subsurface anomalies.
The group hopes the upcoming investigation will provide the world with “undeniable evidence” that the Bible’s most famous ark has been found.
Its proponents argue that the structure corresponds exactly to the dimensions of the Ark described in the book of Genesis: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high (about 515 ft x 86 ft).
While skeptics argue that the formation is merely a distinctive natural rock feature, extraordinary radar scans have previously detected angular structures and significant, hollow cavities 20 feet below the surface.
Lauren Witzke, fundraiser for Noah’s Ark Scans, said: “This is not just a scientific discovery; it is confirmation that Noah’s Ark, one of history’s most mocked stories, is real, as is the God who inspired it and sent the much-needed flood in his wrath and mercy.”
The team welcomed the development and announced: “This historic authorization marks the first time in modern history that a dedicated international team has been officially permitted to conduct comprehensive, non-destructive research at the site using revolutionary new scanning and imaging technologies that have never before been applied to this site.”
This location first attracted contemporary attention in 1948, when torrential rain and seismic activity eroded the surrounding mud and a ship-like formation became available to a local Kurdish shepherd.
Lead researcher Jones argues that the mound’s unusual physical characteristics confirm that it is man-made.
He previously told the Daily Mail: “An object does not naturally form with its pointed end uphill. According to fluid dynamics, if it is a naturally occurring obstruction around a rock in the soil or around a mudflow, then the pointed end would be downhill and the rounded end would be uphill.”
Perhaps most notable are the underground chambers identified by the team’s radar device. Jones explained that he and his colleagues discovered “an unfilled tunnel leading to a large central void, a square chamber leading much lower down.”
He also noted: “Some people have theorized that Noah’s Ark had a large multi-level atrium that allowed light and air to circulate between the three decks.
“Our assumption is that this may be part of Noah’s Ark, possibly the central hall and some of the decks. There is definitely something preserved underground.”
The research team also claims that chemical analysis of the soil within the formation shows the decomposition of the timber. Soil samples reveal a lower pH along with high levels of organic matter and potassium.
“Tests show that these soil differences (pH, organic matter and potassium) are real, with less than a five percent chance that they are random and 95 percent confidence that something like a rotten wooden ship is causing them,” Jones said.
Addressing skeptics who pointed out that the region was 28 kilometers away from the summit of Mount Ararat, Jones emphasized that the Bible was talking about a larger region.
He said: “The Bible does not say that Noah’s Ark landed on Mount Ararat; the plural of Ararat says mountains. In those days, Ararat was an ancient kingdom.
“That’s like saying Noah’s Ark landed in the Colorado mountains today. It doesn’t refer to a specific peak but to an area of mountains, and our area fits that location.”
The landmark expedition is expected to begin later this year.
