India, UK hold meeting of key group, chart roadmap to deepen defence cooperation

New Delhi: India and the United Kingdom held “constructive and forward-looking” talks at a meeting of a key group to deepen defense cooperation and chart a “robust roadmap” to strengthen the enduring partnership between their militaries, officials said.

The 15th India-UK Enforcement Steering Group (ESG) is being held in the United Kingdom from June 17-19, the Indian Army said in a post published on X on Tuesday.

“This involvement included visits to the UK Trials and Experimentation Group, the ESG Meeting at the Ministry of Defense in London and MBDA Stevenage,” he said.

The talks focused on advancing multi-layered military cooperation through enhanced interoperability, bilateral joint exercises and training, exchange of experts on niche and emerging military technologies, exploration of new avenues in training cooperation and increased engagement among defense think tanks, the Indian Army said.

“The talks were constructive and forward-looking, charting a solid roadmap for deepening defense cooperation and strengthening the enduring partnership between the Indian Army and the British Army,” the post said.
Earlier this month, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India and the UK are well positioned to forge a future-oriented and mutually beneficial new partnership following the newly strengthened comprehensive trade agreement and defense industry roadmap. He made these remarks during a meeting with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in New Delhi.
